Hall Middle School/Redwood High School Night of Jazz
After graduating with distinguished honors from Sonoma State University under the direction of the late Mel Graves; Educator, Composer, Saxophonist, Pianist Jeff Derby has been leading the Hall Middle School Band/Jazz Program since 2006. The music program has had the opportunity to perform at many bay area venues throughout the years. This night will feature three Hall jazz bands, ranging from 6th, 7th to 8th grade groups.
After earning his Master’s from New England Conservatory of Music, Educator, Composer, Saxophonist, Banjo player John Mattern took over the music program at Redwood in 2004. In 2006, he was awarded Music Educator of the year in Northern California. Many of his past students are active members in the music community throughout the country. Redwood is excited to be bringing both of their jazz bands to the Fenix.
